3 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Vacation

Blog

If you plan on going on vacation in the next couple of weeks, there are a few things you will want to do in order to prepare your home. Preparing your home for your vacation is going to ensure that your home does not become a target of a break in while you are away. Many burglars target homes they know are unoccupied due to tell-tale signs that the owners have been away. Here are three ways to prepare your home so you come back to everything exactly the way it was when you left:

Prevent Build Up

First off, if you travel often, then it is a good idea to have a P.O. box. This is going to help prevent mail build up while you are away. The mailbox outside of your home beginning to overflow is one sign that tells burglars you are away. You could also contact your local post office in order to have them hold the mail for you and then they will deliver it all at once when you come back. Also, when it comes to receiving newspapers, be sure to put a hold on the subscription or have a neighbor pick them up for you. This avoids any build up of newspapers on your driveway, which then makes your home a target of break-ins.

Control Lighting

Having some lights on at night is going to make your home appear to be occupied. Plus, with some parts of your home illuminated, it will be more difficult for trespassers to hide. Be sure that you set timers for certain lights to turn on at night, such as patio lights and maybe even a hallway light that is close to the entrance of your home. It's also a good idea to install motion sensor lighting, which gives trespassers the idea they are being watched and thus makes them less likely to actually break into your home.

Install Security Signs

Even if you don't have a security system installed, you can contact your local security company and purchase signs through them. This gives the impression that you actually do have a security system and burglars will more than likely not target your home. Of course, you should also consider the installation of a security system along with the purchase of these signs to be extra precautious.

Knowing these three ways to prepare your home can guarantee that you are much more likely to return to a home that was in the same condition as you left it. This can also give you peace of mind and allow you to better enjoy your time away from home. For more informaiton, talk to a professional like Atlas Alarm Corporation.

Protect Your Place of Worship

A couple of years ago, two men broke into three churches in my neighborhood one night. During their horrible escapade, they stole expensive cameras and musical instruments. They also committed thousands of dollars of vandalism damage at these three places of worship. After finding out about this unspeakable act, my whole community was shaken. Sadly, none of these churches had security systems on the night of this savage event. If you are the pastor of a place of worship, you should seriously consider installing a state-of-the-art security system at your church. On this blog, you will discover the best types of security systems to install at a place of worship.
